Laboratory of Cell Mediated Immunity (LCMI)
laboratory head: Anatoli M Malyguine, M.D., Ph.D.
Mission
The Laboratory of Cell Mediated Immunity (LCMI), CSP, SAIC-Frederick, Inc. was established in October 2000 to meet the requirements of the Vaccine Working Group Oversight Committee, CCR, NCI (Chairman Dr. Jay Berzofsky). The LCMI was established to provide dedicated support to the CCR, NCI.The primary mission of the laboratory is to provide state of the art, clinically validated, immunological assays that are of broad applicability to the investigators within NCI. To date, six different immunological assays have been validated for clinical use: Peptide IFN-γ ELISPOT assay, Whole protein ELISPOT assay, Autologous tumor ELISPOT assay, Cytokine induction assay, Proliferation assay and Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) induction and 51Cr release assay. The combination of these assays allows us to perform comprehensive immunological monitoring of cancer vaccine trials conducted by NCI investigators that may provide important immunological insight into patient responses to cancer vaccines that may then be directly assessed against clinical outcome. LCMI also offers an IFN-γ ELISPOT assay for the murine system.
To further advance this mission the LCMI continues to develop new immunological assays that can provide more precise and accurate means to analyze different aspects of cell-mediated immunity in clinical settings. Additionally, appropriate controls are identified and quality assurance criteria implemented for each assay to insure the laboratory provides reproducible and accurate results.
